about

I wrote this song just after reading "Just Kids" by Patti Smith. It was the memoir she wrote about growing up and her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe. It is still one of my favourite books.

lyrics

It's May15 and the weather's cold and wet
Can't hardly hold my pen inside my hand
I'm a melancholic, neurotic, whatchacallit
This red wine headache starts my whole day off

Well I'm 48 life coulda passed me by
When the curtains closed I got on my bike to ride
I hit the wall fell flat down on the ground
I hit that wall
Now I'm gonna kick it down

I fell so far down
I hit rock bottom
I broke my back
I was feelin' rotten
I had no choice
I took a stance
I made that change
I took the chance

It's been six months still I feel a little sting
What was a great big gash is now a teeny scab healing
I had to push the pain and drag myself right through
When push comes to shove only assholes get the blues

I fell so far down
I hit rock bottom
I broke my back
I was feelin' rotten
I had no choice
I took a stance
I made that change
I took the chance
